In the United States the PS5 with a disc drive is $649.99 and the Series X is $799.99 before sales tax, a gap of $150.

Why the gap is so wide
Both consoles went up in 2026.
Sony raised the PS5 on 2 April and Microsoft raised the Xbox Series X|S on 1 August, so today’s gap is wider than it was at launch.
The cheaper models
The digital models show the same pattern: in the United States the PS5 Digital Edition is $599.99 and the Xbox Series X Digital is $749.99.
The cheapest current console from either maker is the Xbox Series S 512 GB at $499.99 in the United States. It has no disc drive and less power than the Series X.
Countries with only one price
We have a PS5 price but no confirmed Xbox Series X price for Australia, India and Japan.
In India: Official price after the August 2026 rise not confirmed; no new units seen on Amazon or Flipkart. The cheapest way to get one in India is to buy it in the United States for $799.99 and carry it home: about ₹76,269 with duty.
Running costs
Online play costs extra on both. In the United States a year of PS Plus Essential is $79.99, while Game Pass Essential is $9.99 a month ($119.88 a year).
