GTA 6: should you buy a PS5 or PS5 Pro?

Checked 24 October 2026

Sony lists GTA 6 as PS5 Pro Enhanced, but neither Sony nor Rockstar has said what that changes.

In India the PS5 Pro is not sold officially.

Short answer

It depends on your budget and your TV more than on GTA 6.

GTA 6 is made for every PS5 model. Rockstar has not said that any part of the game needs a PS5 Pro.

What the PS5 Pro adds, officially

Sony lists four main changes on its PS5 Pro page; the rest of the console works like a PS5.

• Storage: a 2 TB SSD built in; Sony notes that part of it is reserved for the system.
• Graphics: “Advanced Ray Tracing” for reflections, shadows and lighting, in games that support it.
• PSSR: Sony’s “AI-enhanced resolution” upscaling for a sharper picture on a 4K TV.
• Wi-Fi 7: with a compatible router; Wi-Fi 6 and 5 routers still work.

Sony says PS5 Pro enhanced features “will vary by game”, and it supports 60 Hz and 120 Hz displays.

No disc drive in the box. The PS5 Pro has no built-in drive. Sony sells the Disc Drive separately, and it fits the PS5 Pro and the slim Digital Edition.

What we know about GTA 6 on PS5 Pro

Only one thing is official: the PlayStation Store lists GTA 6 as PS5 Pro Enhanced.

• The label: Sony’s GTA 6 store page shows “PS5 Pro Enhanced”, checked 24 October 2026.
• What it changes: not announced. Neither Rockstar nor Sony has said what the Pro version improves.
• Frame rate and resolution: not announced for any console. We will not guess, and numbers you see elsewhere are not official.
• Release: 19 November 2026 on PS5 (including PS5 Pro) and Xbox Series X|S.

We will update this guide when Rockstar or Sony confirms the details. Prices and release details are on our GTA 6 page.

Prices of PS5, PS5 Digital and PS5 Pro

In the US the PS5 Pro is $250 more than the PS5 with disc drive; in India it is not sold officially.

*Before sales tax, which is added at the till. Euro area: Sony’s recommended price. “About” amounts use exchange rates from 22 October 2026, so they are approximate.

India: Not launched officially in India; not on Sony India’s store. The cheapest way to get one in India is to buy it in Japan for ¥137,980 and carry it home: about ₹86,220 with duty. Imported units usually come without an Indian warranty. The full import maths is on PS5 Pro bought abroad for India.

Your TV matters more than the console

The PS5 Pro’s extra detail shows only on a TV that can display it.

• 4K: Sony aims PSSR at 4K TVs; on a 1080p TV you see much less of the difference.
• 120 Hz: needs a TV with a 120 Hz HDMI input, usually labelled HDMI 2.1 or 4K 120 Hz.
• Cable: 4K at 120 Hz needs an HDMI 2.1 (Ultra High Speed) cable. Check the cable you use before you buy another one.
• Not every game: 120 Hz modes depend on the game, and GTA 6 has no announced 120 Hz mode.

Set Game Mode, 120 Hz, VRR and HDR in the right order with our TV settings guide.

Already have a PS5?

Keep it: GTA 6 runs on every PS5, and a bigger SSD is the cheaper upgrade.

• Space: Rockstar has not announced the GTA 6 file size. Check your free space with our storage calculator.
• More storage: every PS5, including the Slim and Pro, has an M.2 slot for a PCIe Gen4 SSD with cooling. Our PS5 SSD guide explains what to buy and how to fit it.
• Selling to upgrade: work out what a used PS5 is worth before you decide, and remember the Pro has no disc drive in the box.
